Per new allegations from a whistleblower, Ghislaine Maxwell, now completing a two-decade sentence for trafficking offenses, is allegedly readying a commutation application for review by the Trump administration.

Special Treatment Claimed at Correctional Facility

House Democrats on the House judiciary committee announced that a whistleblower provided evidence indicating the inmate is preparing the commutation application. They also stated she has been receiving special treatment at the minimum-security facility in the Lone Star State.

Representative Jamie Raskin, the top Democrat on the committee, declared in a official statement that the prison’s warden was assisting the convict with document preparation and submission to aid her effort for executive mercy.

The exact content of the “commutation application” remain unknown, Raskin added.

Alleged Privileges and Custom Arrangements

Raskin states that, according to the whistleblower, the prisoner has been given specially prepared food that are hand-delivered to her cell, and the warden has “personally arranged” exclusive visits for Maxwell and her guests.

These meetings reportedly involve a designated private space for attendees and a variety of food and drinks for her associates.

Those visiting Maxwell were also reportedly permitted to carry electronic devices, which the congressman characterized as an exceptional measure given the security risk and potential for unmonitored communications.

Reportedly on one occasion, when phone lines went down for other prisoners, she was given specific instructions about instructing her contacts to call and how staff would relay the call to her.

Warden as “Personal Secretary”

The whistleblower further reportedly told congressional members that when the convict wanted to review and edit documents “quickly”, she “essentially used” the warden as her “personal secretary and administrative assistant”.

The news release indicates that Maxwell’s correspondents would send files directly to the warden, who would provide them to Maxwell, who would review and edit them and return them to the warden to scan and provide to the initial correspondent.

Extra Benefits Reported

Further perks allegedly granted to Maxwell include opportunities to interact with a trainee assistance dog – a benefit typically prohibited – as well as exclusive nighttime use to the prison exercise area.

Her legal counsel has not yet replied to a request for comment regarding the insider's allegations.

Through a spokesperson, the White House said that it “does not comment” on potential clemency requests.

“As President Trump has stated, pardoning the convict is not something he has considered,” the spokesperson noted.

Context and Developments

Over the weekend, it was reported that she told friends and family in electronic messages that she was “much happier” at the Texas facility than her former location.

This past summer, Maxwell was transferred from a secure facility in Tallahassee, Florida to the less restrictive prison in Texas, where most detainees are incarcerated for non-violent offenses and white-collar crimes.

This move, which experts described as exceptional, occurred just days after she was interviewed about the Jeffrey Epstein investigation by the deputy attorney general, Todd Blanche, who also once acted as the President's personal lawyer.

That interview came as the Trump administration was facing increasing scrutiny to disclose additional files related to the Epstein investigation and amid widespread conjecture around Trump's own personal ties to the disgraced financier and convicted sex offender, who was found deceased in custody in 2019 while facing trial on sex-trafficking charges.

Lawmaker Reactions

Through the statement, the congressman also announced that he had sent a letter to Trump, requesting explanations about the insider's claims, and called on the president to reject Maxwell’s commutation request.

“It would be inappropriate to approve any form of clemency to this convicted and unrepentant criminal,” Raskin wrote in the letter. “The government must not offer her with personal amenities, with puppies to play with, with government agents attending to her requests, or with any preferential handling or institutional privilege at all.”

The congressman asked that Blanche attend a public congressional hearing to discuss the revelations and also presented several inquiries to Trump.

He inquired whether he had talked about a potential commutation for Maxwell with Blanche or others, whether he had instructed him or anyone else to arrange Maxwell with the move or favorable and preferential treatment in prison, and whether she, her attorneys, relatives or agents have made any commitments to Trump or his legal team.

Raskin has asked for a response to the inquiries by 24 November.

In October, the US supreme court declined to hear an appeal from Maxwell on her trafficking verdict.
